During our previous trip to Penang, we took the ETS directly there but this time, we decided to take a Trevo instead. What is Trevo? It's basically a car sharing marketplace aka an Airbnb for cars!

So we got a nice Honda City to drive all the way up and down.
Why do I need to get a Trevo when I have a car?
Okay there are a few advantages of getting a shared car here:
- It is obviously more comfortable to travel long hours in a bigger car
- Need space to fit all the luggage (I own a small Myvi)
- You can make pitstops on the way!
- Can drive around instead of relying on public transport or walking everywhere (us, the previous trip)
Sharing some of the places we went to in Ipoh, Penang and Taiping which we managed to explore just because we booked a Trevo instead of taking the ETS or flying!
Lunch at Ipoh
Otw to Penang we decided to stop first at Ipoh for.. obviously food! By this point we were quite hungry and this shredded chicken noodle soup (kai see hor fun) at Restoran Ipoh Kong Heng really hit the spot.
The whole area is quite nice and can take Insta-pics. For example, this is the exterior of the kopitiam we ate at LOL then we walked around and found this nice alley attached to The Happy 8 Retreat Ipoh which also has rooms - the whole place has an elaborate wooden theme going on.Then you can walk around some more to the area around Sekeping Kong Heng Ipoh which features several art installations, some food and bazaar. Of course, not missing out the BookXcess in Kong Heng as well.
Penang - What to do in Penang?
Coffee at Norm Micro Roastery
We're finally on the island! I loved Norm from my previous trip so this time we headed to their newer Norm Micro Roastery. The place is very big and the sunlight coming down from the high ceiling is so perfect for photos!
Address: 13, Gat Lebuh Gereja, George Town, 10300 George Town, Pulau Pinang
Still full from the noodles earlier so only ordered tiramisu and iced coffee to cool down with.
Breakfast at Cecil Street Market
Apart from the cafes, you should definitely explore the local cuisine when in Penang! One must-have is char koay teow and I highly recommend this duck egg char koay teow at Cecil Street Market. While you're there, the koay teow th'ng and curry laksa are also amazing!!
Address: 40-48, Lebuh Cecil, 10300 George Town, Pulau Pinang
Countryside Stables Penang
We drove all the way to the other side of the island for this!! This is an absolute heaven for horse lovers: the place is huge with lots of horses, ponies and donkeys roaming around. You can get close to them, pat them and feed them at ease as they're mostly friendly. You can also pay more for a guided horse ride around the compound.
Address: Lot 10050, Jalan Sungai Burung, Kampung Sungai Burung, 11000 Balik Pulau, Pulau Pinang
Sunset at the Beach
On the way back from the stables, we wanted to drop by Ferringhi beach but stumbled upon this beach near Tropical Spice Garden that was quieter. We ended up watching the sunset there.
Rimba Lab Nursery & Plant Cafe
Here's something that we can't find in KL (yet)! We've been to Jetty35 before but this cafe is new. With Tania's current obsession with plants, we simply HAD to visit this place. The entire shop is literally filled with plants you can sit and have coffee with. The owner is super duper friendly and there's a plant sifu to chat with. If you're having issues with your plant, you can drop it at Rimba Lab's 'plant hospital' too.
Address: (Inside Jetty35) 35, Pengkalan Weld, 10300, George Town, Penang
Aside from the nursery, it's also a lovely cafe serving drinks and cakes. Can you please look at the setup?? This place is so Insta-worthy from any angle.
Taiping Lake Gardens
Otw back from Penang to KL, we dropped by Taiping Lake Gardens for a brief walk. In the mornings you can see many people from young to old here exercising, taking photos of birds or simply enjoying the morning air.
